A sick-nasty collaboration is a single artistic soul dwelling in two local companies
–Aristotle
Ancient Greek culture declared muses to be goddesses; the daughters of lord Zeus. Calliope, epic poetry; Clio, history; Erato, love poetry; Euterpe, music; Mepomene, tragedy; Polyhymnia, sacred poetry; Terpsichore, dance; Thalia, comedy; and Urania, astronomy. Together these 9 muses ruled over the arts and sciences, offering divine inspiration to poets, philosophers, and artists alike.
Modern pop culture, on the other side of the scale, declares Blake Lively to be a muse; People, we have failed.
But from the depths of a mythical enchanted village– rather, Lowell– comes a shimmering beacon of hope.
The alleged 10th muse, Phidias Gold, will be summoned to our fair city tomorrow, humbly offering up Visual Art inspiration, and some sweet apparel as well.
Phidias Gold is not only a (mythical) reincarnated muse but also a clothing brand, co-owned by Lowell-based freelance illustrator and designer Wesley Eggebrecht, “for artists by artists.” And we all can recall the counterpart of gold right? “Make new friends, but keep the old, one is ____ and the other’s gold.”Silver! Green!
Green Street Vault, the apparel truck whose wheels stopped turning (literally, though certainly not metaphorically) in March after creator Derrick Cheung began getting hassled because he did not have the proper retail truck permits (that don’t exist), has teamed up with Phidias Gold to bring some righteous inspiration to their pop-up shop, Green Street Jungle, at Annie Mulz on Newbury Street.
The PG x GSV Collaboration has brought forth a mid-summer menswear collection, entitled Green and Gold.
The collection is composed of two t-shirts and one tank, each featuring artwork containing the Green Street Vault truck or logo, and the wickedly cracked-out, demented looking rabbit icon of Phidias Gold. All of the artwork was done by Eggebrecht himself.
Join these two brands in celebrating their limited-edition collection on Friday at their release party at GSV’s pop-up shop. They’ll be raffling off all of the original ink drawings, with purchase of any Phidias Gold shirt. Almost beating the artwork itself in the race to extreme awesomeability is live music from DJ Goulet, and the fact that the event is sponsored by PBR, which means free beer for 21+ attendees.
