Chicago’s own Geffika stormed through Allston last week dumping gallons of thirst-quenching slow & heavy all over us and that hellfire should subdue my yearning, at least for a little while. Where as a good basement show can be determined by the amount of condensation sweating off the pipes, Geffika’s Jessica Calvanico (guitar, lead vox) and Geoff Thai (drums, backing vox) might as well have made the pipes cry blood. Their name is certainly attention grabbing, if not hilarious and mildly offensive, and conjures up a vision of some cartoony, sweaty, red balloon-of-a-minister screaming hellfire somewhere below the Bible Belt. From the core to the surface, Allston’s Ridgemont are punk-as-f*ck, loud and proud of it. They dress the part (if that matters) and they certainly have that carefree, fun-loving, beer swilling, feel good impulsive attitude which was exhibited through our time talking together. There was less of a formal interview and more of a bunch of rowdiness with a mix of jokes, group sing (yelling), lewd gestures and shenanigans topped off with fire. Continue reading
