FAVORITE FRESHMAN:Digital Vagabond has been throwing down unique sets of future bass music in Boston and around the Northeast. He’s just started producing his own music and is a true artist.

FAVORITE LOCAL MUSICIAN: Gotta give it up to Luke Bemand. Been killing it this year in lespecial and Supersillyus Life Band and as his DJ project, Drunken Doja Monkey.

Plus, he’s got style.

FAVORITE NEW RELEASE: Right now I am really impressed with Eelko‘s newest mix. I’ve watched this guy’s production and mixing grow so much in the last few months.

FAVORITE MEMORY FROM BOSTON SCENE:

I gotta say raging with the crew of furries up front during Claude Vonstroke‘s set at The Drop’s two year anniversary. Such beautiful mayhem and a legend on the decks.

FAVORITE RESIDENT: Zola (mmmmaven/Together) has an arsenal of tech house and deep house that gets me smiling and moving every time. I find myself looking for his name on bills and wanna see him spin longer sets!

FAVORITE LIVE SHOW: Anything on Tuesday (Music Ecology) or Wednesday (Wobble Wednesdays) at Wonder Bar in Allston. There is a nice dynamic between the upstairs stage and the downstairs DJ booth, fresh acts from the West Coast can almost exclusively be found there,

and no matter how packed it gets, I am comfortable enough to rage.

MOST LIKELY TO BLOW UP:

Moe Pope. That dude has the message and the skills to represent Boston right on the big stage.

MOST UNIQUE STYLE:

Supersillyus has always produced music that is unclassifiable.

He knows how utilize various styles of electronic production, but still manages to do his own thing both in the studio and on stage.

FAVORITE DANCE NIGHT: For a night in area that never fails to make me dance, I have to say Make it New at Middlesex. The past few months they have been showcasing some of the most up and coming acts in various styles of house music from around the world.

FAVORITE FRESHMAN: Will Martin, my production partner on several tracks recently and a proper DJ/Producer talent on the rise in Boston.  He has a residency called Gallery where you can see him play.

FAVORITE LOCAL MUSICIAN:

I like to go see André Obin play. He is talented and passionate for sure.

FAVORITE MEMORY FROM BOSTON SCENE: DJ KC‘s sets at The Soul Revival parties really did it for me, but

a personal highlight was playing a couple DJ gigs with Juan Atkins in Boston, his music has been a big influence on me.

FAVORITE RESIDENT: DJ Kon of the Middlesex lounge, a favorite DJ of mine in the city. Kon has impeccable taste, tight mixing and the ability to rock a crowd.

FAVORITE LIVE SHOW:

A favorite local live electronic act at the moment is Ali Berger. We shared a gig with Jimmy Edgar and his set was a killer, improvising a bit on gear and doing it well.

FAVORITE DANCE NIGHT: Make it New at Middlesex lounge, I started going nearly every week years and years ago.

The first time I played there it felt like I played a real party in Boston for the first time, and now I’m a resident!

INTERVIEW: FLUME

FLUME

“We had basically blanked out the idea of it even being a possibility that it would beat that album. It was never even a thing, a possibility in anyone’s minds. So for that to happen was pretty insane. But at the same time I try not to get caught up in the stats and craziness. I try to just listen to my music.” Continue reading

5 DRINK MINIMUM: MASS CONSUMPTION

FT_5Drink_banner

It’s time again for our semiannual 5 Drink Minimum feature, and this time, we’re taking it to the streets. Well, the street, really—Massachusetts Ave., the landmark havin’, city connectin’, river crossin’ thoroughfarest of ‘em all. Major artery, prepare to get clogged. Continue reading

I chose my favorite places for the marathon: where Mass Ave. is filled with of music. Behind these doors are some of the best bartenders this city has to offer. And tonight, I’m writing about them and for them. Continue reading
