INTERVIEW: TRAP THEM

trap them

Izzi: Boston is weird, everyone’s reserved but once one person goes off, it’s crazy.

Paggio: That Converge show at the f—ing Royale or whatever, the last show of that tour was like, “Oh yeah this is what it used to be like.” Continue reading

FAVORITE LOCAL MUSICIAN:
Pretty & Nice. The new songs on Golden Rules for Golden People contain just as many complexities as 2008′s Get Young,

but there’s this sunnier, ’60s pop component in the mix now.

Seeing them live gets me sofa king happy.

FAVORITE NEW RELEASE: Krill‘s next album. It was recorded in like ten hours last February at the new Silent Barn studios in Brooklyn, all first or second takes. Incredibly tight and dynamic and FUN trio that covers a lot of styles, but in their own, undefinable, Krilly way. Summer will sound great.

FAVORITE MEMORY FROM THE BOSTON SCENE: 12/31/2007. Night Rally‘s one-off reunion at the old Milky Way with Big Bear and Neptune. If you aren’t privy to those artists you’re not old enough (to party).

FAVORITE LIVE SHOW: Wicked Single.

MOST LIKELY TO BLOW UP: Speedy Ortiz. Even though they’re based in Western Mass, they’re in Boston and NYC and elsewhere multiple times a month, always hustling, always making new fans, always sounding so good.

New 7″ and their first LP are gonna be both out by year’s end… kaBOOM!

MOST UNIQUE STYLE: Fat History Month. It’s just hard to find an artist in town as barebones and gimmickless as them. Their guitarwork and drumming sound like they’ve been fused together. Vocals with no effects for full effect, be it tragic or comedic.

FAVORITE NIGHT OF MUSIC: Two years ago I caught Les Savy Fav at Royale and was able to make it to The Paradise in time for Guided by Voices. Shoutout to anyone else who did the same.

BAR HAVOC: THE 2012 FERNET BRANCA BARBACK GAMES

You know those Tuesdays, the ones where you’re all, “I’m going to go to bed early”, and then you wind up at a bar drinking wine in your gym clothes, and then at Royale drinking Fernet, and then at Centerfolds drinking Miller Lite. Continue reading
