VEG HEAD: TREAT YO’SELF: VEGAN DINNER SERIES AT UPSTAIRS ON THE SQUARE

“It looks like a princess palace.”

I said that to myself once while sitting in Harvard Square’s UpStairs on the Square. Okay, it was a long time ago. Give me a break. If you’ve never been to UpStairs on the Square, and princess fantasies aren’t your thing, this summer’s vegan dinners are reason enough to check the place out.

“It’s just plain the very best time of year to be a vegan,” according to the UpStairs on the Square website. Wednesday is the first of a three-part summer vegan dinner series.

Though I’d love to be there to scope it out for you in advance, $45 is a little bit out of my range. Instead, I’ll be elsewhere serving up burgers and other items I pretend I’ve tasted. Spoiler alert: Your waitress is almost always lying. Still, the price seems worth it. You should definitely head out if you have the money and time.

Chef Susan Regis

Chef Alison Hearn

The dinner—four courses available with vegan wines—looks like no joke. The June vegan menu, prepared by Susan Regis and Alison Hearn, boasts Indian-style potato-filled flatbread and cauliflower veloute with ajawan, curry leaves, and pea fritter.

Love in the air? Your date will adore you if you splurge for this one.

The website warns that these dinners sell out. Reservations are recommended.
