MASSUniting has steadily been protesting against giant corporations and the negative effect that they have on the not super wealthy. Their latest protest hit General Electric’s main lobby in Boston.
With taxes on worried minds across the US this week, the nation’s largest corporation, General Electric (who posted an $11.6 BILLION profit in 2010) managed to rake in a $3.2 BILLION federal tax REFUND for the same period, a recent review of SEC filings reveals.
Why should you care?
A 2011 report estimates that Massachusetts lost more than $140 million in federal spending and aid as a result of GE’s tax avoidance.
This is enough money to stave off painful budget cuts that have nixed the jobs of hundreds of hard-working construction workers, teachers, and first-responders in Mass.
But never has protesting been more funky!
