REEL TALK: MOVIES RATED BY ANAGRAMS

RT_DarkKnightRises

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES | HATED GHERKIN SKIRTS
We doubted Christian Bale before seeing the first one. We doubted Heath Ledger before seeing the second one. Now we doubt ourselves for ever doubting Mr. Nolan. Rambo-esque naming scheme aside, Christopher Nolan’s final chapter in his Batman trilogy caps off what has already been the best popcorn summer in recent memory. [PG-13 | Wide Release, Fri 7.20.12]

CITIZEN KANE | IN IT, ZEN CAKE

If you’ve seen Citizen Kane, then you know is that it’s one of the greatest, most revolutionary and most significant pieces of art ever committed to celluloid. If you haven’t seen Citizen Kane, then all you need to know is that it’s one of the greatest, most revolutionary and most significant pieces of art ever committed to celluloid, AND it’s playing at the Brattle this Monday. Check it out. [PG | Brattle Theatre, Mon 7.23.12]

JURASSIC PARK | SAC SIRUP JAR

Sure, it’s produced two of the most memorable memes in internet history and it’s little more than “Dinosaurs, UH OH!” for two hours. But it’s still as much fun as it was 20 years ago, right when Spielberg decided to enter his not-very-much-fun-anymore era, and the special effects hold up impressively. I saw it three times in the theater at age 11, and if you’ve never seen it on the big screen, you’re missing out. [PG-13 | Coolidge Corner Theatre, Mon 7.23.12]

UNFORGIVEABLE | OVULAR BEEFING

A French production set in Venice about a writer who worries his wife may be cheating on him. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg for our hero Francis, whose paranoia quickly gives way to obsession about damn near everything, from his past to the guy he hired to follow his recent bride because his newfound happiness is giving him writer’s block. Oh, the French. [NR | Kendall Square Cinema, Fri 7.20.12]
