PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 4 | RUNNING OF THE BULLS
This time, it’s para-personal. [R | WIDE RELEASE | FRI 10.19.12]
COMBAT GIRLS | YOLO
Nazis may be a punchline here in the states, but over in Europe they’re serious biz. The openly neo-fascist Golden Dawn in Greece, the Le Pen family in France, and the BNP in the UK actually holding seats in the European Parliament—this shit’s real. Combat Girls tells the story of an angry 20-year-old German girl who is attracted to the far right, but is forced to confront those beliefs when she meets an Afghan refugee. [NR | COOLIDGE CORNER THEATRE | SUN 10.21.12]
TWO YEARS AT SEA | MORTAL KOMBAT
Director Ben Rivers will be attending the Harvard Film Archive’s screening of his latest investigation into the life of the Scottish loner, Jake Williams, who spent two years in near-complete isolation, with only Rivers’s cameras to keep him company. Basically, the complete opposite of what life is now for practically everyone in the entire world. Surprisingly gripping. [NR | HARVARD FILM ARCHIVE | SAT 10.20.12]
LED ZEPPELIN: CELEBRATION DAY | (NECROMANCER) ENCHANTMENT UNDER THE SEA
Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, and Jimmy Page reunited in 2007 in London’s O2 Arena, with John Bonham’s son Jason on drums, to pay tribute to Atlantic Records-founder Ahmet Ertegun. Footage from a concert that happened five years ago. A bunch of hit songs recorded 40 years ago. A band that released near-unwatchable concert films 35 years ago. What do you get when you put that all together? Something ostensibly amazing! [NR | KENDALL SQUARE CINEMA | WED 10.17.12]
ALEX CROSS | KILTS & STILTS
Tyler Perry is that film-and-TV actor/writer/director/producer with staggering output (though few rise above 60 percent on Rotten Tomatoes). Edward Burns is that indie actor/writer/director/producer who bases entire movies around him getting stressed and saying as many hard-life truisms with as thick a New York accent as he can muster. Rob Cohen is that guy that directed The Fast and The Furious. Alex Cross is the name of the lead character in the movie they’re all in and is also the name of the movie. [PG-13 | WIDE RELEASE | 10.19.12]
