The day after thousands waited in the snow and cold for one last glimpse of Mayor Tom Menino, many more returned to Faneuil Hall for his Hizzonner's final send-off. As the media waited for the casket to be carried out, Bostonians scrambled for the few "Thank You Mayor Menino" signs available and rapped with dozens of police getting the route ready.

The Daily News of Newburyport reports that Essex County District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett told a roomful of people that “the increased potency of cannabis … which is often laced with high percentages of THC, ecstasy or crystal meth” has been in part responsible for 100 heroin overdoses in his jurisdiction this year alone.

Some days, he’d be furious with me about something I had written. Other times, he’d shrug the hit off with a snarky quip. The man was not short on wit.
