FIRST ARTIST RENDERINGS OF UNION SQUARE’S THUNDER ROAD RELEASED

Considering the positively Kafka-esque bureaucratic process of licenses, permits, approvals and overall palm-greasing needed to open a new music venue anywhere in the Boston area, we’ve learned not to believe anything actually exists until we can actually spill a beer on the floor. But consider this recent update on Union Square’s Thunder Road as a step in the right direction.

New artist renderings for the exterior of club (381 Somerville Ave., in the former Radio space) were posted on their Facebook page yesterday and we like what we see. There’s more natural light, coming in from almost-floor-to-ceiling windows looking out on the street, which is always a good start, and the kind of 50’s diner signage that makes you think they’ll serve fries doused in gravy. Based on that, you can finish building the interior with your imagination (mine comes with a sick pinball machine collection).

There’s no firm opening date as of yet, but these drawings, along with the fact that construction is already well underway, seems to indicate that we’ll be spilling the aforementioned beer in here sooner rather than later…
