There’s a serious disconnect between the appearance of the man and the voice of Matisyahu, accentuated when a slender, hoody wearing, clean-shaven Matthew Paul Miller stepped out on stage in support of his fifth album, Akeda. Through the course of almost two hours, he chanted and rapped his syncopated Old Testament-oriented lyrics of spirituality over reggae sounds loaded with happy hooks and danceable beats. Making the fourth night of Hanukkah even more festive was a disco-dreidel spinning overhead. If you weren’t impressed by his sound, the sheer volume of the words he uttered in two hours was a miracle. [Lee Schlesinger]
