Last night Nine Inch Nails revisited Boston at the Xfinity Center. Trent Reznor wailed out his self-loathing lyrics of yore alongside upbeat disco-fueled mixes from his newest album, Hesitation Marks. While tracks like “Reptile” may seem like they’re from another lifetime (20 years ago from their prominent Downward Spiral album) with his new outlook on things, everything flowed together in a fuzz of electronic adaptions to create a strong setlist of the Nine Inch Nails catalog. Fun fact: 1992’s Wish from the Broken EP won a Grammy for “Best Metal Performance,” and may be the only song ever to do so incorporating lyrics, “fist-fuck.” The rampant hit fell fluidly into the set as their 14th song. I’d proclaim this guy one of the most innovative musicians of the past century.
