HOLIDAY GIVING: A MUSICAL PRESENT FOR PLANNED PARENTHOOD

Written by NINA CORCORAN Posted December 18, 2016 Filed Under: MUSIC, Notes from the Scene

Somewhere between mall madness, thrift store rummaging, flipping through book stacks, and trying to tape wrapping paper together, it hits: You forgot to complete the most important gift of all.

No, we’re not talking about that special something-something for you-know-who. And no, we’re not talking about a hefty donation to your pals here at DigBoston (Though who are we to say no if it’s offered?). We’re looking outwards at the blazing fire that is the state of this country and those who are caught in its flames (not literally, of course). It’s time to donate funds or time for an anonymous gift to others.

Hardcore act Great Lakes USA, rock guitarist Yoni Gordon, punk pals Fucko, and evil hippies Planet of Adventure team up on Sunday Dec 18 to play a benefit show for Planned Parenthood. Proceeds from the show will help support the nonprofit organization to keep its health services available to all.

It’s not every day your gift comes with a massive bonus to you, the buyer. For ten bucks, you get a night full of powerful, intense music made by people of all genders, sexualities, races, and ages. You get new music to fall in love with. You get cheerful bartenders who are happy to chat beforehand. Best of all, you get the satisfaction of knowing you helped someone who may need assistance affording health costs that could be stripped away in the coming months. Holidays are for sharing love, and sometimes the people who need it most are those too quiet to ask directly for it.

Forget the wrapping paper. We’ll see you at the Planned Parenthood gig.

GREAT LAKES USA, YONI GORDON, FUCKO, PLANET OF ADVENTURE. SUN 12.18. GREAT SCOTT, 1222 COMM. AVE., ALLSTON. 9PM/18+/$10. GREATSCOTTBOSTON.COM
