INTERVIEW: THE RETURN OF ROADSTEAMER

Written by DIG INTERN Posted October 27, 2014 Filed Under: Lulz, Performing Arts

It’s been quite a while since Boston had the pleasure of being terrorized by Robbie Roadsteamer, our region’s preeminent politically incorrect musical savage who makes Ted Nugent look like Ted Kennedy. After opening for Andrew Dice Clay years ago, local comic and musician Rob Potylo – the brawn and brains behind Roadsteamer – decided to step out of character before it was too late, before he became stuck like Dice. But now he’s back, and we wanted to know how, why, where, and when. Imagine all the answers he gave being delivered in the kind of voice you would imagine robbing you in a dark alley.

Years ago you said you tossed the character and were never going to look back. Why the change of heart?

Well … three guys pulled me into the back of a van … not a white one fuckers … but still … they said some shit … and I’m on EBT … I’m dying … and there’s some things I just have to think about now…. Plus my coke habit in the recording studio has forced me out of the emo song game … sorry … I’m a thrill seeker … And I love Boston … but it’s time for bigger swords and stronger armor … and bigger dragons …

What’s Roadsteamer been up to for the past couple of years?

Massive orgies at the Cloud Club … dark times … art scene … sucked in … kinda like that Clay Shaw orgy scene in the Oliver Stone movie JFK … don’t ask me in person at the clubs about that you fuckers … let me live.

What’s his most recent favorite album?

Didn’t get better than metal in Boston … 10 years ago … power … knowledge … My ears are dead now … fuck … we screwed up at a music scene … why? Fuck.

What success has Roadsteamer had bringing his show to other cities?

Ask my new tour manager.

Is Roadsteamer drinking these days? Cocktail of choice?

YES … plus coke … plus … MDMA … for PTSD … Sparkling Ice Cherry Limeade and Vodka.

Any celebrity romances we can look forward to the new Roadsteamer pursuing?

Casey Desmond and Amanda Palmer are both married … Fuck … maybe that NESN broad Will WiddleBrooks is trying to tie down to a fucking marriage … Congrats Jenny … You’re marrying a fucking lifetime .187 hitter … WTF????

How long is Roadsteamer going to be around this time? We heard something about a NYE show.

Teaming up with Ken Susi of Unearth Tues for WEMF 5pm … Ernie Boch Jr … Then Middle East Downstairs Saturday night12/13/14 … The night before the Boston Music Awards … And then a world tour … Yey 🙂

Finally, who will Roadsteamer be voting for for governor?

The only change comes from a Roadsteamer concert.
