LISTEN: SPOTIFY PLAYLISTS WITH LOCAL TUNES FOR YOUR NEXT CROSSTOWN UBER RIDE

If you, like me, measure all technological achievement by how easily it helps you access every piece of recorded music in human history, then today is a good day: Spotify just announced a new initiative in partnership with Uber allowing riders (those with premium Spotify accounts, anyway) to stream their taste in music during their Uber rides.

That means Rick from Needham doesn’t just have to pretend he’s excited to bring you and your drunk friend all the way back to Southie at 3AM for no tip, but he now has to listen to Three 6 Mafia the whole way (such sonic hijaking of the car’s radio has some Uber drivers voicing early concerns, naturally).

Weather or not this strategic partnership results in a boost in Uber ridership (particularly amongst those users who haven’t yet discovered headphones) remains to be seen, but either way, you’ll be glad it’s available the next time your stuck in the backseat at rush hour with Dale & Holley barking in your ears.

To help you take advantage, we put together four playlists of our own featuring local music based on wherever your destination may be, from hitting Allston for a basement show or taking a blunt cruise down Dot Ave.
