GENRE | Post-Grateful Dead

LABEL | Self-released

RELEASE DATE | February 9, 2017

VERDICT | I’M FULL!

Beeef has been ripping around Allston for three years now and will be releasing their debut full length, A BEEEF CD, on February 9th alongside GYMSHORTS, Black Beach, and a taste of what The Chicken & Rice Guys has to offer our city with their new Allston location.

“Dogshit Paradise” is a staple track to this hearty new album from the band. Fresh out of the oven, bassist Daniel Schiffer kicks off the track with a riff that’s particularly tasty. The heavy and dense notes of Schiffer’s bass work soar throughout and pair beautifully with the dynamic range of guitar tones from guitarists Perry Eaton and Josh Bolduc. Drummer Neil Patch is just the cherry on top of this Beeef Sundae*, as the drum fills on“Dogshit Paradise” are breathtaking. If Allston had an anthem, it would surely be by Beeef.

If you don’t believe that for some reason, the music video for“Dogshit Paradise” can vouch for this claim. The video features the band and friends navigating through some of Allston’s most prime locations with flawlessly stable camera work by Allston’s legendary film-nomenon Andrew Gibson. It is a perfect visual aid to Beeef’s technically precise and angular jam, depicting a beautiful summer day in Allston.

According to various Beeef preparation websites, Beeef is best served by grilling, broiling, or oven-roasting. I disagree. The best way to serve Beeef is by rocking out at the Great Scott with a stomach full of Chicken & Rice Guys.

*- Beeef Sundaes do not exist… Yet.
