WATCH THIS: NEW VIDEOS FROM AKROBATIK, WILL DAILEY, DUTCH REBELLE + HALSTON

Written by MARTIN CABALLERO Posted October 14, 2014 Filed Under: A+E, Performing Arts

The four videos from local artists you need to watch this week…

Dutch ReBelle
“Goddess”
ReBelle Diaries
Dir: Goodwin

now available: iTunes

“Doing 80 while ducking Staties with my foxy ladies outta Haiti looking smooth as gravy and we getting wavy.” That’s a lyric from Dutch ReBelle’s “Goddess,” and also a treatment for the video (minus the going 80 part). Just add body paint and beach, stir and enjoy.

Will Dailey
“Higher Education”
National Throat
Dir: Mike Olcott

Now available: iTunes

Are you jaded and bitter at life beyond redemption? Does the idea of scruffy bearded man twanging his banjo on a rooftop looking out over the city skyline, as he earnestly, sweetly sings a tender song of hope and appreciating life’s simple yet profoundly beautiful qualities, make you sick? Yes? Poor soul. I was once just like you. Then this happened.

Akrobatik
“Built to Last”
Built to Last
Playaktion Recordings
Dir: Vertygo

Now available: iTunes

If the zombie apocalypse did ever go down, you could be stuck with worse people in your ragtag group of marauding survivors than Akrobatik. Question is, could he do worse than being stuck with you? He seems fine rolling solo amongst the walking dead in the clip for the title track from his most recent LP, where he quips “I returned from aortic dissection to move hip hop in a forward direction.” Indeed.

Halston
“Blood on the Chair

Now available: Bandcamp

My main takeaway after watching the bizarre new video from Halston: V-necks, tambourines and handclaps go together surprisingly well.
