Andrew W.K has become a modern-day wellness guru, providing people with advice on a weekly basis through the Village Voice and motivational speaking engagements. We asked him about his resolutions for 2015, and his thoughts on wellness.
2015 resolutions. Go.
This year, I’ve set a goal to just be better. Just try to be better! Across the board, maybe if there’s always that voice in your head that can call you out on your own low-level behavior more, just listen to it more. Even if you get tempted to follow that more primal instinct of anger, shallowness, pettiness—and I’m very familiar with all those bad feelings—even depression and sadness, listen to that other voice … that there’s another way to feel. Just be nicer and better in every possible way.
How can you achieve that?
PARTY! Keep partying.
Word association: Change.
Maybe if you had a bathroom accident, you might change your clothes, or underwear at least.
Love.
It is its only association! Or maybe partying, I guess.
Running.
Digestion.
Vegetables.
Digestion, again.
Challenge.
More digestion problems. It depends on if you haven’t been drinking a lot of water, or fiber and vegetables. That really helps reduce the challenge of using the restroom. Of course too much fiber goes back to the theme of running and change after that happens.
An appropriate follow-up: Taco Tuesdays?
I have some close friends that suffer from digestion issues brought upon by cilantro, which is often found in Pico de Gallo, and especially authentic Mexican food. In general, I would say eat as many tacos as you possibly can. And if you don’t like them, that could be a great resolution. Find a way to enjoy them. You could always throw in a Choco-Taco, which is a very popular ice cream snack for people that don’t otherwise like Mexican food but want to participate in the spirit of tacos.
Thank you!
Thank you for enrobing me in veggies!
