RELEASE DATE | 10.14
In July, CreaturOs dropped their ode to psychedelic summer bliss, “Short Shorts.” That was just a preview of what they have in store on Popsicle; just as the weather begins turning from cold to f-ing freezing, a last potent dose of fuzz guitars and tambourine slaps before hibernation sets in. That track is easily the band at their most appealing; bright guitars, handclaps, a vocal cadence Mick Jagger would be proud of, and plenty of easy charisma to spare. If that’s the summer anthem blaring from a convertible, then “Weird Queen” is the noisy pop-punk jam blasting from the guys speeding by on Harleys. The band finds the time to explore the places in between as well; opening cut “The Master’s Dope” bristles with touches of Southern rock beneath the noisy surface, while “Hand In My Pocket” gets in to a thick psych groove.
