THE CLEAN-UP: HEAD INTO THE HOLIDAYS A LITTLE MORE GROOMED, YOU ANIMALS

Guys, just because you have a patch of dense hair follicle foliage on your back flank steaks, doesn’t mean it has to stay that way.

But instead of attempting to wax myself (I have no idea how that would even be possible) I checked out the revamped upper floors of the G2O Spa in the Back Bay. Besides the services offered, they have a slick lounge room, sky-lit hot tub, and even a brick rooftop terrace that you can use for meetings or Internet access or just hanging out with other spa folk. When I was done checking the place out, I took off my shirt, and let the technician do her thing with little else than a meek “eep” and a request to be gentle.

In about 20 minutes, I went from being my father’s son to being a man with a back as smooth as a baby porpoise. The sensation was akin to the way your teeth feel after getting braces off. Weirdly smooth and slimy (they lotioned me up after), and just as when I shaved my beard off for the first time in four years earlier this summer, I needed some time to adjust to how the elements felt back there.

And yes, it hurt.
