It took 8,000 submissions from across the country to tell the rest of the world what we in Boston have already known for some time: those Bearstronaut kids are pretty, pretty good.
The electro-pop quartet took home top honors at this year’s second annual Get Out the Garage competition, a contest sponsored by Converse and Guitar Center, that concluded with this winning performance of “Passenger Side” on Saturday night in Brooklyn.
Besides yet more Boston bragging rights, the band take home a pretty sweet, possibly career-changing haul: $25,000, for one, plus recording time at Converse Rubber Tracks studio and a gig playing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! On top of that, throw in a professionally directed and produced music video and free worldwide digital distribution via TuneCore.
In a press release, the band described their victory: “We were so honored to even be named a finalist for Get Out of the Garage and it was completely surreal to find out the judges chose us as the winner. It was such a pleasure to get to meet and share a bill with the other bands that night. We do not take an opportunity like this for granted knowing there are so many great musicians out there working just as hard and we are grateful to Guitar Center and Converse for giving us such an amazing night and opportunity.”
