The past few times Low toured in Boston, the band played seated venues that brought sobriety and formality to their already somber music. Back in 2008, Alan Sparhawk told a dead silent Museum of Fine Arts audience, “I feel like we should leave time for Q&A.” Though Low’s aging fans might welcome the opportunity to rest, Low’s Wednesday show at Brighton Music Hall offered a return to the club feel that marked the band’s ’90s debut.
The packed crowd, the clinking bottles, and the glowing screens showing the Sox game all reminded us that these touring veterans can play any room and command it. And they did just that with a crowd of loyal fans, many of whom likely remember those club shows from two decades ago.
