LISTEN: DIG MIX // WEEK OF 11.19.14

Written by DIG MIX Posted November 19, 2014 Filed Under: DJ Set of the Week, MUSIC

DIG MIX would love nothing more than to simply show up every Wednesday, put together a little playlist and hurry back home to play the N64 we finally got working again, but it’s never that easy. The minute we boot up the old MacBook, DIG MIX is assailed with Boston music news that must also be reported, no matter how laughably trivial it may seem: for example, the Foo Fighters playing two shows at Fenway Park next summer on July 18 and 19.

Normally we would just give a pithy shrug and go back to trolling SoundCloud, but we were politely reminded that this matters to some people, thus we should attempt to have some sort of reaction, as it would be the nice thing to do. But it’s tough: after “Everlong” and the section where Dave Grohl inevitably stops to wax lyrical about Boston’s reputation for “rocking” and, like, paving this cool “sonic highway” that totally connects all these different cities through the band’s own uniquely bland perspective, we can’t generate too much excitement here. Still, should be a good night out with your dad.

Masses appeased, we can get back to the mixing. This week has Zip-Tie Handcuffs offering two tracks from Sundream, the new LP from self-proclaimed stoner punk band (explained here), and “badass bass-wielding babe” Mitski offering up her reasons why “I Don’t Smoke,” plus cuts from Budos Band, Black EL, The Fatal Flaw and Party Bois. We even threw on a couple dose-e-doh jawns from Joe’s Truck Stop and Damn Tall Buildings to prep you for the big square dance hootenanny at TT the Bear’s Place tonight.
