Sip & Learn: Juices & Smoothies

It’s time to give into that deep, insatiable thirst and get your juice and smoothie on. Don’t just drink them willy-nilly, though. There’s a time and a place for every juice, and Thirst Juice Co. founder Heather Stevenson is going to teach you how to be a safe drinker. In this first ever Sip & Learn class, you’ll learn how beneficial smoothies in a diet can be, when to drink juice to maximize nutritional benefits, and some nifty recipes.

Smut Slam: Where Sexy and Storytelling Collide

It takes a lot to bare your heart out on stage, especially in a poetry slam, but there’s a certain rewarding factor that goes along with knowing that you managed to get up on stage and make words come out of your mouth in front of an audience. Smut Slam seeks to challenge you once more in a slam that revolves around sex and its many faces. To properly smut, you have to be noteless, propless, and pour your true story out in five minutes. If you have a particularly juicy story or just want a chance at trying your hand at a slam, this is the event for you.

Center for Arts at the Armory. 191 Highland Ave., Somerville. 7:30-10pm/18+/$10. artsatthearmory.org/events/smut-slam-where-sexy-and-storytelling-collide

Pulp Friction: A Quentin TaranTEASEno Burlesque

There’s a passage I got memorized. Oberon 8:00. “The path of the raunchy man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of burlesque and Tarantino, shepherds the weak through the streets of the Arrow, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost sensuality. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy your evening of dancing and stripteases. And you will know you are at Pulp Friction when Maggie Maraschino lay her garter belt upon you.”

OBERON. 2 Arrow St., Cambridge. 8-10pm/18+/$10-$20.americanrepertorytheater.org/events/show/pulp-friction

Bobby Long

You might know him from that one song he wrote for Twilight, or maybe not at all, and that’s okay, because regardless of whether you’re familiar with him or not, Bobby Long’s bringing some sweet folk rock down to Cambridge for the masses to indulge in. Stylistically similar to the likes of Bob Dylan and Elliot Smith, Bobby Long is a passionate guy with a genuine love of music. With just him and his guitar, it’s bound to be an evening that’ll remind musicians where they came from and where they’re going.

Club Passim. 47 Palmer St., Cambridge. 8-10pm/all ages/$20. passim.org/club/bobby-long-1

Muse

The Drones World Tour flies into Boston in support of its album Drones. The show will be performed in the round, which is to say that there will be a 360 degree stage set up in the center of the garden. So why should you give a shit about any of this, nevermind the fact that Muse is a generic huge act and fairly well played out musically? For starters, that previous sentence is false, and these English rockers still have some serious game in them, but they’re also a guilty pleasure you like to lie about in front of friends but secretly are dying to see again live. So go.
